Ateneo de Manila University breezed past University of the East in the first set, and that opened the way for their second stringers to have an opportunity for exposure. Fail. Coach Roger sensed that their second stringers are no match for UE's attackers and defenders, and when ADMU's top players got reunited on the court, it was too late as they lost sets 2 and 3.
In the fourth set, Ateneo regained the form as they tied the match 2-2. It was not as easy as the first set though, as the players seem lost in their play an execution. Not even the heroic saves of Den Den Lazaro could save them. UE won set 5 in a rousing fashion.
In the second game, University of Santo Tomas denied what the first set offered to be an upset as the University of the Philippine Maroons stood tough. The second set was nowhere near the performance of the Maroons as they faltered with too many erroneous serves, and they just gave it away to UST.
